The birth of Postpartum Pathways
When Hana Cumming began considering a second child, she knew her postpartum experience had to be different. Having faced postpartum depression, anxiety, and other health challenges with her first child, she was determined to change her story. Frustrated by the lack of accessible postpartum information, (and being a bit of a nerd!) Hana dove deep into research.
A life-changing conversation with her close friend, Sophie Pert, revealed that Sophie had faced similar struggles and was adamant that the research Hana had been doing could help other parents too.
So, together, Hana and Sophie created Postpartum Pathways – a space designed to empower, inform and support māmā and their whānau as they prepare for life with their pēpi.
The story of our logo
This logo holds deep meaning for us, it embodies everything we hope for families in their postpartum journey.
The flower bud shape represents growth, transformation and new beginnings - when a baby is born so too are the parents. Just like a bud unfolding into bloom, parenthood and postpartum is a process of growth, change, and becoming.
At the heart of the design is new life -your baby. Surrounding them is the mother, cocooning and nurturing this precious beginning. Holding them both is the other parent or support person, a vital presence in this time of change.
Holding this family is the wider support system they’ve cultivated -their community, whānau, and the structures that uphold them during postpartum.
And at the very base, you’ll find a small seed - this is Postpartum Pathways.
We are here to plant the seed, to guide and empower you in preparing for a positive postpartum. But ultimately, it is you who will nurture this experience, setting your own intention and making it your reality.

Hana
Mama to one, former marine biologist, and now completely immersed in my passion—helping māmā and their whānau prepare for one of the most transformational times in their lives!
What started as a personal journey quickly grew into a deep desire to support others. Drawing on my research background, I’ve brought together the many different threads of the postpartum experience to create a holistic, evidence-based course that blends traditional wisdom with the latest science.
After experiencing firsthand how challenging postpartum can be (and now knowing how different it can be!), I’m driven to help other women feel in control of their own journey. I truly believe that when we care for our māmā, we create ripples of healing that extend far beyond those early weeks and months.
Every mother deserves to feel nourished, informed, and empowered and I’m here to help make that happen.

Sophie
Mum to three beautiful children, my journey into parenthood was filled with love and joy but I also felt depleted, anxious, and doubted myself. It wasn’t until much later that I realized postpartum didn’t have to be this way.
When Hana first shared the information she had gathered with me, it was a lightbulb moment. I had never considered that my postpartum experience could be different—I thought the struggles were just part and parcel of becoming a parent. But learning what was possible made me realize how much this knowledge could help others. Seeing the gap in postpartum education, I knew we had to do something.
With my third baby, my postpartum experience has been completely different. With the knowledge I have now, I felt more prepared, supported, and able to truly nurture myself. That’s why Hana and I created Postpartum Pathways—because every parent deserves to feel informed, empowered, and surrounded by support
